Kathy Dana
Contemporary Artist

My joy as an artist is to reveal the life and positive energy in all things.

Art has always been central to my life. At age ten, a drawing of mine appeared on local TV. At age fifteen, I was recognized with an opportunity to attend class at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. A degree in Graphic Design and Journalism from San Diego State University opened the door to becoming an art director for one of the largest advertising agencies in the world. In that role, the importance of composition, how color works and the diverse moods created by natural light deepened. It was working on location with top filmmakers and photographers awaiting “the perfect moment” that taught me patience and how to spot precisely when a particular scene “worked”.

After a rewarding career in advertising and raising a family, I returned to the joys and challenges of painting in 2013. My work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in the Sacramento area, as well as in Artist’s Magazine and an eight-page article in International Artist Magazine. Collectors from across the United States have collected my work, ranging in size from as small two inches wide to as large as seven feet tall.

Impressionist and turn-of the century plein-air painters continue to influence my work. Fellow artists in our Northern California community are a constant source of inspiration.
